Forty2 have partnered with Syneos Health EU Communications for over a decade, helping support, design and deliver a variety of programmes, as well as developing and facilitating a range of bespoke workshops for specialist teams.

Most recently, with a focus on attracting and retaining the highest calibre of staff with outstanding leadership ability, Syneos Health EU Communications developed their Enhance programme.  As an integral part of this development course, Forty2 designed a 7-day leadership programme engineered to equip team leaders with the skills and behaviours required to lead, inspire and motivate their team members. To date nearly 75% of their performance managers have gone through this programme and we are celebrating a 2nd successful year.

"Throughout my time working with Forty2 the guidance and support has been nothing but professional, efficient and inspiring. They have really been able to pinpoint our needs and help create a programme that delivers on this. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with them."

Future Focused Leaders

NaturalMotion makes games that wow people, creating titles that reach a large audience and creating communities that last. Founded in 2001, NaturalMotion released its first title ‘Backbreaker Football’ for the iPhone in 2009, a series of further titles followed such as NFL Rivals, My Horse, and the number one grossing & award-winning game, CSR Racing in 2012. NaturalMotion joined the Zynga family in 2014 and in 2018 and 2019, NaturalMotion was recognised as one of the ‘Best Places To Work’ in the UK Games Industry Awards.  This year Zynga were also crowned ‘Number 1 Mobile Games Company, 2019’ by Pocketgamer.biz.

NaturalMotion’s success and growth has always been fuelled by its people, their energy and determination. Appreciating this, NaturalMotion approached Forty2 with the brief to develop and deliver a management training programme designed to provide key players within the then current management cohort with the skills and behaviours required to inspire team members, promote passion for work and maximise both individual and team performance.

In 2015, Forty2 delivered the first line-management programme of 6 modules, phased over 6 months. The programme proved so successful that NaturalMotion has run it annually ever since.

Additionally, Forty2 has run a series of SKILLSHOTTM clinics in a variety of topics for those without management responsibility, conducted executive coaching sessions for line managers with individual development needs, and has facilitated a series of workshops designed to define the company’s purpose and promote the culture required for continued success.

Most recently, in 2019, Forty2 was excited to launch an 8-month follow-on initiative to the line management programme: a combination of 360assessments and a series of group workshops engineered to develop the abilities of NaturalMotion’s future leaders.

"We have worked with Nick and Nic at Forty2 for over 4 years now, and during that time we have partnered on a number of learning and development programs, including bespoke training, designed to meet the needs of our employees, from first-line leaders through to our leadership and Exec teams.  Forty2’s courses always receive positive feedback, and I appreciate the personalised approach they use to ensure they’re aligned with our mission to make awesome games and always add value to our teams.

Leadership Competency Assessment process

From project management to account leadership

Based in the UK, but with a global footprint in over 30 countries, Pegasus provides smart, creative and agile macrocomms campaigns for health organisations throughout the world, using behavioural change science to solve real world challenges. Pegasus brings its campaigns to life through a suite of integrated services including brand development, media & influencer relations, events & exhibitions, digital marketing, content marketing, editorial & medical writing, graphic design, animation, video production, and corporate comms.

Having grown rapidly to become the second largest independent healthcare PR consultancy in the UK, Pegasus originally approached Forty2 in 2013 to design and deliver a 6-month leadership programme to help develop Associate Directors and Account Directors into leaders of the future.  Since then Pegasus has continued to grow and is now part of UDG Healthcare PLC.  Forty2 has continued to support Pegasus, providing leadership development programmes at all levels within the organisation, specialist ‘high performing team’ workshops from board level downwards, psychometric assessment and 1-2-1 coaching.

“Thanks again Nick for another fantastic session on leadership for our vital line managers. As always, the content was spot on, the delivery seamless and your counsel invaluable to the participants! Near perfect feedback from all – yet again! You remain one of Pegasus’ best investments and the change in our managers after attending your session, is almost immediate. Forty2 will continue to be one of our most valued partners. Thank you again.”

Collaborative Leadership

Electric Square is a highly respected, forward-thinking game development studio founded by industry veterans Jon Gibson and Tony Beckwith. The company is driven by a collaborative culture that constantly pushes the boundaries of what it means to be state-of-the-art. The dynamic mix of experts and the very best fresh talent results in energised teams and a thriving environment.

As a rapidly growing and successful organisation with ambitious plans for the future, Electric square recognised that many of its staff had been promoted into ‘lead’ positions with little experience of management and leadership. Having previously participated in a development programme run by Forty2 elsewhere within the games industry, Studio Art Director Jay Green, approached Forty2 to develop and deliver a leadership programme designed to complement Electric Square’s focus on staff welfare and its unique collaborative and forward-thinking culture.  Starting at board level, Forty2 ran a 6-month programme designed to encourage leadership behaviour, develop leadership skills and promote common methodology and processes. The programme was launched in 2017 and, based on its impact, has since been rolled out to all levels of ‘lead’ within the organisation.

“The Collaborative Leadership course by Forty2 opened my mind in many ways. It helped me as a Lead to question my own views, to understand others’ perspectives and to think through their ‘filters’; key fundamentals of the programme and effective leadership.

What I really liked about the course was that it trained us how to use effective questioning and active listening to encourage people to come up with the solutions themselves, providing them with ownership and investment in what they do.

The course really helped me grow as a person; I’ve been a Lead for a few years now and even with all that experience, the programme has boosted my confidence and enhanced my abilities to help others grow and perform at a higher level.”

From Peer to Leader

Cistermiser has a proud history of over 35 years of service to the UK construction industry. Cistermiser designs and develops proven, innovative and efficient water management solutions that optimise control, deliver savings and help to ensure the safety and preservation of the earth’s most precious resource.

In 2015 Cistermiser engaged Forty2 to develop and deliver a programme designed to provoke line-managers to take on more of a leadership role; to shift from being ‘one of the team’ (a peer) to the role of a true ‘team leader’. By freeing up directors from operational matters, this in turn would allow these senior executives to fuel the company’s growth through enhanced focus on strategic matters. After a successful phase 1, Forty2 continued to work with Cistermiser to embed the shift in focus.

The process included a 3600 assessment, personal development planning, 1-2-1 coaching, work-based projects and group training focusing on:

· building elite teams

· strategic planning

· financial awareness

· leading strategic change

We were pleased to draw on Forty2’s expertise to guide us across a range of initiatives. Our line management team undoubtedly benefited from some engaging line management training and Forty2 carefully facilitated the collective redesign of our performance review appraisal format, including 360o feedback for improved personal development. Most importantly perhaps, our managers responded positively to Forty2’s training and have now stepped up to take full ownership of key business focus areas and associated KPIs.

From Account to People Leadership

Galliard and Nyxeon are healthcare communicators who specialise in scientific ‘storytelling’. Driven by a passion for science, their hugely talented and diverse teams focus on working collaboratively with clients to deliver creative solutions.

This approach has brought tremendous success and growth, but the senior team recognised that, in order to maintain such growth, the company’s leaders at every level needed to better understand their own management style and to make the shift from executing to taking charge and inspiring others. Galliard contacted Forty2 to develop a practical management programme, comprising 8 half-day sessions, to provide their Account Managers with an insight into their own behaviour and its impact on others; equipping them with the knowledge and skills to motivate and empower their teams.

The training has had a positive impact, developing confidence and encouraging a greater emphasis on ownership and solution finding at every level.

PATH to Success

The Porterhouse Medical Group works with clients across the globe to generate insight and develop creative, scientific and medical communications with maximum impact. Porterhouse has offices in the UK and USA and employs highly qualified medical communications, market research and insights professionals.

To support their rapid growth, Porterhouse required their high potential managers to adopt a leadership role and lead as a cohesive leadership team. To facilitate the transition, Forty2 developed and delivered a 2-phased programme, spread over 24 months, designed to enhance the group’s leadership skills and embed Porterhouse’s newly defined culture (defined by the PATH values: Proud and Passionate, A shared entrepreneurial spirit, Togetherness, Humour and Happiness).

The bespoke management training programme developed by Nic and the team at Forty2 for our emerging leaders, promoted self-awareness of management styles, identification of strategies for managing others and for achieving long term business goals.  It also helped them develop into leaders who operate as a cohesive team, meeting regularly to implement strategy and identify potential issues, whilst proactively providing feedback to senior management and inputting into the long-term business strategy, thus supporting continued organisational growth.
